How to Create Water ? with the solar powered LEAF Self-Generating Water Resource

One example of future water creation technology could transform many lives in humid regions of the world.

leaf-selfAnurag Sarda's solar powered LEAF Self-Generating Water Resource won first prize at the international Time to Care Sustainable Design Award, organised by the makers of the adaptable knife, Victorinox Swiss Army.

Its is able to produce 20 litres of drinking water every day,

  • the LEAF is an 18-foot tall water condensation unit.
  • It is similar to a natural leaf, the unit transforms condensation into water, which is then purified via an attached sand filtration unit and finally collected in an earthen pot.
  • LEAF utilises solar energy to generate electricity and cool its upper metallic surface, facilitating the formation of dew, which is then collected via the leaf-like shape of the structure. The unit does not need a lot of maintnance.

Hydrogen Generation

Since the 1970s, Hydrogen has been claimed to be a clean alternative to replace fossil fuel. Its potential has not been realized beacause of storage problems.Indeed, too less volume of hydrogen was absorded so it was not commercially viable.

However a team of scientits have dicovered a magnesium nano-composite which can help in storing hydrogen without oxydizing the metal.

It is the first time that scientists are able to overcome the thermodynamic issue.

Peter Brink : Self-Sufficient House

In the landscape of Holtien, Peter Brinks has built an almost self-sufficient house. In the near future the house will be completely off-grid with no connection to any pipe or cable network. Currently there is a temporary electricity connection in place. The rest of the house has no connection to any system.

Both the inside and outiside are built with recycled materials. The house is heated with 6 solar collectors and a heat pump.

There is also a wood-burning stove in the kitchen. The whole house is completely insulated in order to save energy.

H3 : the House of the Future

H3 is the house of the future, built onto 7000m2 in Athens. Designed by a greek firm, the main volume of the house is supported by pillars above a swimming pool, giving the feeling of hovering over the water and sailling.

H3 is really dynamic and modern but also eco friendly thanks to the use of geothermal energy.

The new solution to Transportation : The Giant Flying Hoovercraft

Transportation takes a lot of time, energy and money.
The solution has been designed by an Indian designer, who won the first prize of Dassault Systemes Design Challenge 2012.

The concept ? These giants hoovercrafts can fly. They will use electric power and will be able to park on the buildings' roofs.

The new Agricultural model : The Farm in The City

futuristic-skyscraper-building-design-concept1-500x429This is greenhouse vertical concept innovation design. This ultra modern building has 28 different agricultural fields an is  an ecological and environmental self-sufficiency building.

The skyscraper, which has a dragonfly wing shape, offers a combination between different spaces such as

  • housing spaces
  • farming fields
  • offices
  • laboratories

The vertical bulding uses the heat of animals and photosynthese of plants on the lower floors to make it's own energy. The vegetables fields are grown by the inhabitants themselves.

Google will cure your future Alzheimer disease

Sergey Brin, the 38-year-old co- founder of Google Inc., is making strides in his quest to find a cure for Parkinson’s, a progressive disease his DNA and family history suggest may afflict him as early as 10 years from now. The advances are encouraging Pfizer Inc. (PFE) and GlaxoSmithKline Plc (GSK) to pursue a new class of medicines that may become the first to slow the progress of Parkinson’s disease in a unique collaboration that Brin is funding.

Brin, who began donating to Parkinson’s research in 2005, accelerated that giving after he learned in 2008 he has a flawed gene that presents him with a 50 percent chance of getting the disease by age 70. So far Brin has donated $132 million, mostly through the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, to help create a DNA database of 7,000 patients and to support work on the first targeted treatments that aim at the genetic causes of the movement disorder. “If I felt it was guaranteed to cure Parkinson’s disease a check for a billion dollars would be the easiest one I have written,” he said in an interview. “Pretty much everybody in the world has or will have some serious condition. How much is it worth to you to have that condition be potentially curable?”

DNA test: what next for our datas?

uncle-greedy

The service that has the ability to map significant portions of the genome has raised controversial questions including whether the results can be interpreted meaningfully, and whether they will lead to genetic discrimination.

This is a problem given the subsequent use of the "customers" genetic data. Tomorrow, Google will certainly offer free DNA analysis. But this in order to collect your personal data, as always. And what if it was used at commercial means…

Google then holds personal data valuable in the eyes of the major pharmaceutical companies that are constantly looking for information on specific populations.

The states of New York and California unsuccessfully attempted to block such tests (provided by 23andMe as well as other companies) under the grounds that they were not properly licensed and attempted to require tests to be conducted only when ordered by a physician.

Knowing your genotype but at what cost if it is to know that you may die like cancer or Alzheimer's contract?
